What makes us Hungry?

AKM

When we need food, our body begins to crave for it. But how do we know that we are feeling hunger? How does our mind receive the message and make us feel hungry? Hunger has nothing to do with an empty stomach, it begins when certain nutritive materials are missing in the blood as per the person’s regular eating habits.

When the blood lacks these materials, a message is sent to a part of the brain called the hunger center. This hunger center works like a brake on the stomach and intestine. As long as the blood has sufficient food, the hunger center slows up the action of the stomach and the intestine. When the food is missing from the blood, the hunger center makes the stomach and intestine more active. This is why a hungry person often heats his stomach rambling.

Even though the above is generally true, sudden change in eating habits is an exception to this. The body takes time to adjust to new eating habits. For example : if a person used to eat a lot of food at a particular time, the body creates the regular quantity of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and will be ready to digest the food. This high acid concentration can cause hunger if the expected quantity of food is not fed in. But, the body easily gets adjusted to this after a few days and its always best to eat only when one is hungry.
